Dear Campers, Parents, and Coaches:

It is with a very heavy heart that I wanted to inform you all that we have been forced to make the very difficult decision to cancel the Cameron Speech and Debate camp this year.  Sadly, due to record low enrollment, it is not possible for us to provide the experience students need and deserve to prepare for their upcoming competition year, given the low enrollment.  So for the first time in 42 years, we sadly must cancel the Cameron Speech and Debate camp.  I speak on behalf of myself, our camp staff, and former director Tony Allison when I say it has been our absolute honor to provide this service to the community for the last 42 years.  I am only sorry that we weren’t able to continue that this year.  As you prepare for the upcoming competitive year, we wish you all the very best of success.

17 years ago, the Cameron Speech and Debate camp was my exposure both to the world of debate and to Cameron University.  My introduction to Cameron through the week I spent at camp each summer is the reason I decided to attend Cameron University as an undergraduate, and  I have had the distinct privilege the last 4 years to serve as the director of the camp.  To say that this decision is hard felt would be an understatement.  This is a very sad day for me personally, for the camp, for our department,  for Cameron University and for the Speech and Debate community.

While I am disappointed that we couldn't make this work this year, I am looking forward to the future.  While I don't have the details worked out now, please know that I am working very hard alongside the Cameron administration to come up with solutions for next year.  It is our full intention to host the Cameron Speech and Debate camp in future years. The Cameron Speech and Debate camp has been and will continue to be a huge part of our department's and universities culture, and will continue to be for years to come.  My goal is to have information out to you early in the Fall!  We will be back- better than ever!

Sincerely,

Sarah
